Copper Door Restaurant

We were on our way back from Londonderry, NH, and my tummy was telling me we had to stop for dinner. We were close to Salem and noticed that the Copper Door was only 5 minutes away. I’ve never been there and the menu looked pretty good, so we decided to stop and check it out.

To be honest, I have never heard of the Copper Door. They are part of restaurant group called Great NH Restaurants, Inc. Their story is that the restaurant is a “chain” but runs like a local restaurant. I’m a sceptic of chains, but I’m always willing to try something out – and it got some good reviews.

Everything was fantastic! Without a reservation, we were told that it would be a 30 minute wait, but could stop at the side bar and order a drink while we wait by the stone fire place. The bar tender was super friendly and prompt. We ordered a Day Boat (Grey Goose Vodka, Canton Ginger Liqueur, Fresh Squeezed Lime, Fresh Mint) and an OM Old Fashioned (Maker’s Mark Bourbon, OM Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt Liqueur, Dash of Bitters, Bada Bing Cherry). Both were absolutely delicious.

We didn’t wait more than the time to have our drinks made, and our table was ready. Our server – Kim, was awesome. She was very accommodating and on her game.

The décor of the little alcove they had us in was intimate and sweet. I thought the roosters were a cute touch.

We thought the garlic monkey bread was amazing. Warm, soft but slightly chewy – it was drizzled with garlic butter and served with whipped butter. We had to ask for another basket to have with dinner.

Dinner

We ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, the Tenderloin Shepard’s Pie and a side of Sweet Potato Fries. The fries were crispy and were well seasoned. The chicken was so juicy. The coating was crisp and perfectly fried. I would have like more mashed potatoes in the Shepard’s pie, but the flavors were still very good.

Overall Experience

I would definitely recommend stopping in if you’re passing through Salem. The food, service and ambiance made for a great dinner.

They also have a location in Bedford, NH. Not sure if it will be just as good since the group’s moto is keeping it local, but could be worth checking out.
