Goodnight Fatty
If you are ever in Salem and need a cookie fix, PLEASE stop by Goodnight Fatty. Located on 1 Washington Square at the Carriage House, this fun little spot has a new menu of Fatties (aka cookies) every weekend. The menu is kept a secret until you order, but you’ll get hints during the week if you follow them on social media. They are only open from Friday to Sunday, 5 – 10pm (Sundays they open earlier), but totally worth the week’s wait. It’s probably better that way. If they were open every day, my waistline would be three times the size!
This was my first time visiting, and I can promise you it won’t be the last. The intoxicating aroma walking through the door made my mouth water. The cookies were being baked as I’m ordering, so I knew they were going to be fresh. They weren’t just fresh – they were still hot! I could feel their warmth coming off of the box when it was handed to me. It took everything in my power to wait until we were home to taste these delectable treats.
This past weekend’s line had a bit of a back to school feel to me and was as followed:
Eggo Waffle
I thought this was going to be a little overwhelming with maple flavor and my least favorite Fatty out of the bunch, but after the first bite I couldn’t stop. The cinnamon goodness with the drizzle of icing was all well balanced with the maple buttery flavor of the dough.
Nutty Buddy
Out of the three, this was my least favorite. Although it was still good, the richness of the peanut butter and the delicious chocolatey cookie was just a little too decadent for me at the time of tasting. Just for the record, this was just my opinion. My cookie connoisseur friend thought this was fabulous – so I traded him my Nutty Buddy for his Eggo.
Raspberry Toaster Strudel
This was by far the winner on the table. The buttery cookie dough and the raspberry filling were a heavenly combination. It was sweet, but not too sugary. I felt like it just melted in my mouth. It’s a good thing I only bought one because I could have put down another 2 or 3.
Overall Experience
This place makes my taste buds very happy. I’m totally into the flavor combinations that Jen and Erik’s place creates for their Fatties. The fact that the cookies are still warm when they were handed to me is a HUGE bonus. The cookie dough has a great texture to it and the aromas wafting through the air were absolutely amazing. I give this trip a 9 out of 10 – only because Brady was a little let down that there wasn’t a cookie for him.
